This year the World Health Organization’s (WHO) will be hosting a global online advocacy event on October 10th for World Mental Health Day. Each year the WHO has focused on a different topic for this annual awareness. Now even though their event and presentation will look a little different this year, they are determined to spread the awareness and resources especially due to the rise of mental health concerns and accessibility since quarantine and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is recorded that more than 75% of people with mental disorders receive no treatment at all for their disorder and that the two most common mental disorders are depression and anxiety”. The lost in productivity due to mental health costs the US economy $1 trillion each year!
The WHO initiative is to provide 100 million people with access to quality and affordable mental health care by 2023. This is to be implemented in 12 countries including Bangladesh, Jordan, Paraguay, the Philippines, Ukraine and Zimbabwe.
